The Wintersteiger Flatness Tester is a 4" x 1/2" (10 cm x Ø 1,27 cm) diameter bar ground to .0005 tolerance heat treated and black oxide treated. Place the true bar on the base in the tip, under the binding, and on the tail. Check for flatness by looking for light under the true bar in the middle or by the edges. On most skis you will notice that the base is slightly concave. Depending on how concave the base is will determine how difficult the ski or snowboard is to turn.
An important tool to have to insure a perfect tune!

The flatness tester is too short (4' x 1/2") for most of the newer alpine skis. It's my fault for ordering this size... Nothing is wrong with the product. Be aware that it should be about 2 inches longer if you are using it on wider shaped skis that require a larger flatness tester for the tips and tails.

A good flatness tester (aka True Bar). Round. Heavy and hard steel. I still don't have the base flatness thing down yet and am struggling to see where these are super useful. But then again, maybe my bases are super flat already and why I can t see any light under the true bar. Gives you peace of mind that your bases are flat. Can also be used to see if base edge bevels are even.
