There were cheaper rack options, but three things made these worth it: horizontal positioning, wooden construction, and padding. I am actually using these racks for skis, with two pairs on each rack (a mix of downhill and lighter nordic skis). I mounted these in our garage and am really happy with their performance. The construction is solid, good wood and screws, and the foam padding on the arms is a thoughtful touch if, like me, the only time you want your skis getting scratched is on the mountain. Highly recommend.
